#2 Monday Mingle: Nian

Monday Mingle

Monday Mingle

It is Monday today!

And welcome back to ‘Monday Mingle’  which I started couple months ago as media to share meanings and values of travel; to share a glimpse of joy and fun things about travel. At the end hopefully could intrigue you to join these traveler’s world or even to share yours. My next ‘Monday Mingle’ is Nian who is one of my best travel mate I can say. Our journey started back then in college where we are room mate for about more than 2 years. We are room mate, not twin sister thus the fact is sometimes we have different preferences, but somehow we can manage to get along during our travel and now I do have some of great/fun/cool travel memories with her. I did go to Nepal with her and do nothing (for more complete story about that covered in my post: One Day in Himalaya, When I did Nothing)

She lives in Bekasi (very near to Jakarta). In 2011, she quit her job to travel in Europe for couple of months. Came home with tons of interesting stories. Now, in daily life she works as Finance professional.  For more info, you can follow her rambling in her blog: Goodnight and Go.

Enough for the prologue and let’s start our Monday Mingle with her. These would be her confession in travel wise.

Traveler Type?

Low Budget (years ago when I was young), now is low to moderate (what’s the difference, eh?)

Travel Budget Source?

Still from the monthly salary (where else?)

First time travel & Where?

First time as backpacker: Yogyakarta in 2008; First time abroad: Singapore in 2009; First time solo travel: Melaka, 2010

What’s inspired you to travel at the first time?

To have fun (yes, traveling is fun!!) and to escape for a while from a very demanding job. As for the traveling abroad was simply to put a stamp at my passport (since I’ve made passport since 2008, but just got the 1st stamp in 2009, see, I’m very well-prepared)

What’s your first travel-related memory?

I gotta say the long hours I have to spend when I travel to my grandparents every year on Lebaran holiday.

Favorite place you’ve been & why?

This one also many, Jogja is my favorite among Indonesian cities. Bangkok for south east asia (for shopping and food), but Siem Reap also nice (the people is super nice, they always say “have a nice day” to you). Mecca and Medina for sure, wish I could live there someday. Actually, every place is my favorite *indecisive*

What’s the best or memorable day you’ve ever had while traveling?

This is not the best memory but somehow this just popped up in my mind, the 17-hours ride from Jakarta to Dieng with a small bus, I always think that since I got thru this, I will get thru anything!! LoL

Something you’ve done during travel & will never do it again?

Phone, books, Lipstick (hey, I’m just a girl)

Your favorite travel reference?

Wikitravel, lonely planet, and friends who’ve been there.

Define travel in 3 words?
